Brettljause for Students

Location:Brandauer’s Bierbögen
Website:http://www.bierig.at

Eaten:Brettljause, mixed salad, two beers (Hadmar)

This restaurant – one of the three in Vienna that carry Mr. Brandauer’s name – is situated close to the University of Economics, so it’s hardly surprising that its dishes have a student-oriented flavor. This means that generally quantity comes before everything else.

The Brettl, which is of impressive size, contains Speck, ham, tasteless cheese, cold Schweinsbraten and Kaminwurzerl, the latter being the highlight. The other ingredients are fresh and abundant (7-8 slices of Speck, ham and cheese), but get boring very quickly. The horseradish is satisfyingly fiery, but neither it nor rather good salad and beer can pull this place out of mediocrity. And at 9.5 Euro the Brettljause is not for poor students either.
