They don’t call it a Brettljause, and it’s for good reasons. It does not come on a Brettl, to start with. It also comes with a standard selection of sausages and cheese that would be familiar to anyone who stayed in a hospital. Schweinsbraten, Speck, Extrawurst, Wiener – exactly as you would get them at any supermarket – with some onions, tomatoes and mustard plus two Semmels instead of bread (to be paid for extra). Oh, and the beer comes in a bottle.
Lainzer Tiergarten is a lovely place, and the boars there seem to be perfectly happy, but maybe it’s because they have never tried the Rohrhausplatte. Go to a supermarket and in five minutes you’ll make yourself an incomparably better Brettljause at a fraction of cost.
