How do you make a Jause cost more than 13 Euros? A simple answer is: serve a completely normal Brettljause and charge 13+ Euros. Mulino 19, a recent opening at the end of Sieveringerstraße, felt it had to be different.

As a result, we have an almost pure Speck+Salami Jause, with three types of either – which is good – and three slices of each type – which is OK or bad depending on your hunger. Fortunately, there is also a piece of a salty Hauswurst, some meaty spread of average spiciness and some very weird potato-like spread, most likely made out of potato but not tasting like one. Decoration-wise, there is enough (though not too much) mustard and horseradish, as well as some radish, paprika, Pfefforoni and extremely vinegar-y cucumbers. The bread, though unexceptional, is much fresher than average, plentiful and free.

Despite the complete absence of cheese, the resulting Brettljause is a rather balanced one and is highly enjoyable to eat up to the last piece, if a bit too same-y and salty. It remains questionable whether it is worth more than 13 Euros (the very basic green salad that I took in addition definitely does not cost 4), but at least you are getting something different from the crowd. And with its perfect location at the end of the Sieveringerstrasse, for which I have always had a soft spot, Mulino 19 is certainly a place to come back to.
