They say in the newspapers that this year there are especially many wasps in Austria. I hadn’t really noticed that until I visited Hamböck. But there, on a well-hidden terrace overlooking the roofs of the ancient village of Stein and a bit of the Danube, the wasps had their revenge. They easily ate more of the Hauerplatte than I did.
I hope they enjoyed it more than me, too, because it was one of the blandest Jausen ever. It did not help that I was not hungry, of course, but the ingredients did not only taste dry and old, they tasted tired. They were so boring, they don’t even deserve detailed description.
My advice: if in Stein, go to Hamböck, drink some wine, enjoy the terrace, then eat somewhere else.
