It looks like all the mountain huts in Salzburg have received an executive instruction to rename their Bretljausen to “Almjausen.” I wonder if this makes them any more popular among the region’s visitors. Perhaps Arabic-speaking tourists find them more tempting because of the familiar “Al” prefix (yet totally inacceptable because of the pork).

Anyway, Bodenhaus clearly does not follow this instruction, maybe because it is not a mountain hut. Located near the end of the Rauris valley, just before the road enters the national park, it is conveniently situated to attract the tourists taking part in the “Gold washing” attraction a few hundreds of meters away. I believe it serves better-than-average food, too, having overheard a German-speaking couple praising their grilled fish.

Bodenhaus’s Brettljause is uninspired, however. Except the surprisingly fresh and tasty liver spread, nothing in the Jause managed to surprise me. The cheese had a strong flavor but featured as too large a slice; two smaller slices of different cheeses would have been much better. The smoked sausage and the slices of the thin snack sausage were filling but boring, while the Speck, though good, had an unchewable layer of fat, which had to be cut off.

I think Bodenhaus added a Brettljause to its menu as a quick way to make a few euros with not much effort. Go there to spend your hard-earned gold if you wish, but better order something more sophisticated.
