Don’t ask me what a “kafma” is. I have been researching myself, but all Google returns is the definition of “karma” (and a bit about Kafka). But perhaps there is indeed something Indian about this hut, since it’s the only one I know that serves a curry chutney, and a very tasty one, too.

Frankly, the chutney would have worked much better with a strong cheese. The two cheeses of Kafma were very authentic, having been made at the owner’s own farm, but not particularly strong. The white spread included with the Jause did not taste strong either, and served more as an alternative to butter than a separate ingredient. Both types of Speck were up to Tyrolean standard, however, and the light salami was not bad either.

Best of all, the Alm Jause was refreshingly small. Having had a double-Brettl day yesterday and more than expecting another one today, I was actually quite happy to see something finishable without requiring a schnapps and two hours of sleep afterwards. And the curry chutney was so good that in retrospective I could have happily bought a jar for home (had I been intelligent enough to ask for it).

Nevertheless… the Kafma Alm was just one of the three huts on the pasture, and finally I am not sure if I had made the right choice. The Stöfflhütte nearby looked very good, and in addition to the self-made meats and cheese, it served its own beer. So, if in the area, you may want to consider that place, too.
