The problem of Wieninger is that the expectations are quite high. It really is a “secret” Heuriger outside of the tourist locations of Grinzing et al. Sadly the goose is not up to the expectations. It’s obviously not “cooked to serve” despite a two-days-in-advance reservation. The meat is so tough that cutting it is a problem of its own; the skin is not thoroughly crispy, and the red cabbage is pretty standard despite the cinnamon and the black pepper they added to it. The goose comes with both bread and potato dumplings, and although the bread dumpling is quite good thanks to the spices, the potato dumpling is as boring as a potato dimpling can possibly be.
The wine is excellent though, and makes the restaurant worth a visit in any case.
