I have recently noticed that my ratings for Brettljause are generally much lower than the ones for geese. This may be because it’s much each easier to mess up a Brettljause (one simply needs to be lazy) and because there are some really good Brettljausen out there (in the mountains of Styria, for example). Geese, on the other hand, tend to be either very satisfying or absolutely average.

Well, Stopfer’s goose has managed to be below average. It’s a pre-cooked animal, but not cooked long enough and not warmed up enough. The skin is anything but crispy; the meat is “fibery”, tending to get stuck between the teeth. The red cabbage also tastes undercooked, being slightly crunchy where it should not be, and the dumplings are simply very boring. It’s not big at all, which might be a blessing in this particular case.

The baked apple and the beer were the best sides of this disappointing experience.
