Good things first: the skin of this goose was extremely crispy. So was a part of the meat, and that was worrying. It had to be expected, though: Altstadtbräu is one of the very tourist-oriented places in the center of the city, though not a very popular one. On the one hand, this results in a quiet and pleasant atmosphere. On the other hand, this leads to a very dry goose.
It’s clear that the poor bird was cooked quite some time ago, though hopefully not last year. It has also been warmed up a few times, until all the fat went out of it, making it shrink to a pitiful size. Actually, there was some brown liquid on the plate, improving the taste slightly, but it could have easily come from a different animal. The red cabbage and the bread dumpling were not of the worst sort, but did nothing to improve this rather disappointing dish.
