Oh dear. That’s the place I visited yesterday, had a very satisfactory Schweinsbraten-bread and looked forward to visiting again in order to try their “full-featured” snack. I wasn’t really expecting a Brettljause, more of a “belegtes Brot,” i.e. a dish with the bread hidden under the meats rather than served separately.
“Schweinsbraten, Speck and mountain cheese” were what I had been promised by the menu. Lots of Schweinsbraten, a couple of hardly noticeable slices of Speck and tasteless cheese of two kinds (including a thick slice of a soft one) were what I got. If anything, the result was worse than the Schweinsbraten-only dish of yesterday. Also, today the bread tasted more spicy, with a strange flavor of perfume, which was on the borderline of acceptable.
Having said all that, Seeraunzn is still the best restaurant I have found around the Hallstättersee; the atmosphere and the location are great, and their Zirbenschnapps is still fantastic. If in the area, go there without hesitation. Just order some fish and avoid the Golsener Brotbrettl.
