There are some good Brettljausen out there that are very difficult to write about – and the weight of having written about more than 600 Brettljausen in the past is only a part of the problem. There are cases when a Brettljause stands out somehow – because of a particularly tasty ingredient, or an abundance or a lack of something, or a totally unrelated but coinciding event like a heavy thunderstorm or a cat that came and slept on your lap while you were eating.
But then, there are Brettljausen like Goll’s, which are fresh, tasty and contain all the right stuff, but do not have anything special that is worth spending hard disk space writing about. OK, it had both an egg and an egg spread in it, which is kind of unusual, and the horseradish was satisfyingly strong, but that’s about all I can say.
Hausleiten is not at all a tourist place, but Goll appears to be very popular among locals. The wine I tried was top quality and it is possible to buy bottles of it for home at ridiculously low prices. If for whatever reason you are in the area and want to eat and drink well, go to Goll. Despite the fact that I struggle to write about it, it gets my heartfelt recommendation.
