Klopeiner See has a lot of positive sides, but grande cuisine is not one of them. The lake is surrounded with unassuming pizzerias, Greek eateries, and Langos and ice cream stands, which must be perfect for the kind of tourists that travel there (mostly, Austrian and German families with small kids). A Mexican restaurant fits naturally in such a company, and were it not for spare ribs on the menu, I would have walked past it easily, particularly because it had almost no visitors.

Feeling hungry, I committed a blunder of ordering nachos as a starter. Served in a huge bowl and covered with melted cheese, nachos are a filling dish on its own and is actually a better choice than spare ribs. While the nachos were served with four different dips, the ribs came empty. One needs to choose a side dish from several unexciting alternatives (I went for corn on a cob, and while dry and oily, it was cut into stripes that resembled octopus’s tentacles and at least looked funny), and if one does not ask for a sauce, none will be provided.

Without a sauce, the ribs are not only bad, they are inedible. Baked and extremely dry, they fell apart easily, like pulled pork that had all juiciness heated out of it. Lacking marinade, they tasted very piggy and were hard to swallow unless dampened in beer.

The overall impression the spare ribs left were that of cheap fast food. After a couple of beers, the restaurant looks pleasant enough, and the service is friendly, but spare ribs there are to be avoided. There are three types of spare ribs on the menu, but I would be very surprised if the other two varieties were any better.
