I did notice the word “grill” in the name of this restaurant but somehow had not paid attention. And even if I had, I was there for a Brettljause, wasn’t I? What a stupid stupid mistake. On the other hand, as I sat down next to a cozy fireplace and ordered my Winzerjause, I could not have imagined that the owners would use the fireplace to cook stuff. Speck-wrapped potatoes, burgers, even a steak – they all looked and smelled so good that I had to ask for more and more of Höfinger’s fantastic wine to wash down their very un-fantastic Brettljause.

The Speck and the Geselchtes were the best bits, although I did bite into a bit of cartilage when chewing the Speck. The Wiener-type sausage and the two types of cheese were boring and tasteless, and the Schweinsbraten looked absolutely ghastly. I don’t know how the same slice can combine gray, pinkish and greenish colors, but this cannot be healthy.

As you can see on the picture, the horseradish was old and dry, and the Pfefferoni looked like a deflated balloon (and tasted like one). The two spreads had very predictable taste, and the Kornspitz bread roll that I was spreading them on was not even fresh. All in all, a huge disappointment for an award-winning establishment.

Nevertheless, I will be back soon – to try the steaks and the burgers and the Speck-wrapped potatoes. And the wine, of course.
