Eaten:"Tauernhausjause," two beers

The Tauernhaus is located at the end of the very beautiful Dorfer Valley and belongs to a German alpine club. This is not a problem at all, because first, most of the tourists visiting Kals are Germans anyway and second, the Brettljause the hut serves is absolutely Tyrolean.

Again, it was Marende-like, with only three ingredients (Speck, cheese and a salty sausage) present, and served with butter, mustard, pickled cucumber, baby onions, radish (no horseradish), a Pfefferoni and a small schnapps. To add to the authenticity, only a knife was provided (no fork), and fortunately the knife was sharp enough to successfully cut the thick slice of Speck into thin chewable bits.

There is nothing much to say about this Jause, apart from that it delivered exactly what was expected with German precision. The only surprise, in a positive way, was the bread, which tasted very fresh and had a wonderful crunchy crust.
