A Menu with Pictures in It

Website:https://www.alpenhaus.at/
Address:Kitzbüheler Horn 7, Ried am Horn 7, 6370 Kitzbühel

Eaten:"Jausenplatte," a beer (Kaiser), ¼ Grüner Veltliner, a small bottle of mineral water

Kill me, but what you see on the photo above cannot cost 21.5 euros. If the restaurant had spent five euros on these slices of cheese and sausage, I would be surprised. There is no egg here and even no butter, despite the fact that it was promised in the menu. I should have probably made a story, crying and shouting “Where is my fucking butter?” but then I’m in Kitzbühel and besides, in a tourist-oriented restaurant that is in the same building with the cable car’s top station. They can charge people whatever they want and still make money.

There is a lot to complain about Alpenhaus’s Jausenplatte, but I have to admit that the Speck was quite good. It would not have been enough, however, to save the restaurant from a lower-than-average score, were it not for the fantastic hard sausage with black pepper. If it had come from a supermarket – as I suspect – I want that supermarket’s address.

I have a feeling that in the huts of Kitzbüheler Horn you are much more likely to get a super-expensive French champagne than a decent Brettljause. The menu even contains pictures of dishes to prevent clueless foreign vegetarians from accidentally swallowing a slice of pork. For this reason, I cannot be too harsh to the Alpenhaus. If you are in Kitzbühel, chances are you will lunch there anyway, so try to look on the brighter side and enjoy the stunning views.
