A few years ago (OK, quite a few years ago), I would have applauded Jamnigalm’s Brettljause for its authenticity and possibly granted it a much higher score. Today, however, I struggled. Not only did the hut, which looked quite impressive and inviting from the valley, turned out basic and, honestly, neglected (the view of a rusty pan standing outside, full with a mix of cooking oil and rainwater, was especially unappetizing), but its Brettljause could only be described as sloppy and lazy.
The plank, delivered to my table within two minutes of my order, contained two thick slices of Speck, one harder than the other, with the softer (and therefore more difficult to cut) one featuring highly annoying cartilage. The rest was cheese, including two types of Glundner (looking awful and tasting of nothing) and one other sort with hardly any flavor. Three pickled cucumbers straight of a can concluded the dish.
Of course, if Glundner is your thing, there is a chance you might like this Brettljause. The Speck, cartilage aside, was actually not bad. But the dish had been prepared with such an obvious lack of affection and effort, that I wished it off my table more than I wanted to finish its edible (i.e., non-Glundner) ingredients. The biggest joke, the Jause was expensive. Although I have not seen the menu, judging by the final bill, which included the Brettljause and one bottle of beer, it must have cost 17 or 18 euros! Sorry, but with so many nice huts in the area, Jamnigalm is a place that can easily be ignored.
