I had not reserved Špica in advance, so could not really complain about uncomfortable seating, but the seat I got was really strange. The wooden table was narrow but very high, while the chair was low and had a soft cushion. Even with multiple pillows piled on the chair, my nose was more-or-less at the same level with the plate. It is good news that the spare ribs smelled good.

The smell was mostly thanks to excellent honey-based BBQ topping, which doubled as sauce. The ribs had been well-marinated, too, resulting in the absence of unpleasant pork taste. In addition to potatoes, the ribs were served with grilled mediterranean vegetables, some of them almost burnt (the fact I liked).

The portion was pretty big, partly because of the size of the rack, and partly because of the length of the ribs themselves. The bones were at least 50% longer than are usually served, and that came with a couple of problems. First, there was some cartilage at the ends of the ribs, which I could not see in advance because of the dim lights in the restaurant and which became unpleasant surprises for my teeth. Second, some ribs were irregular-shaped, making cutting a rather messy affair.

Still, the marinade and the large quantity of grilled vegetables made Špica’s ribs pleasingly special. Špica is yet another touristy and a bit overpriced restaurant in Bled, and its main specialty seems to be pizzas, but out of three spare ribs that I tried in the town, Špica’s ribs were the best.
